Many vehicles in the JP+ NewGRFs offer different liveries (colour schemes) and other configurations using the livery refit feature. Livery refits are a way of changing a vehicle’s appearance manually, without having to sell it and repurchase a different vehicle.

This is done in the same way as refitting a vehicle to a different cargo type, but it is primarily for changing the vehicle’s appearance rather than what it carries. In some cases, livery refits can also affect properties like speed and capacity, but in JP+ these have mostly been split off into separate variants.

Variants

Variants are a newer OpenTTD feature, allowing vehicles in the purchase list to be listed as a subcategory of another. Many newer NewGRFs use this method in place of livery refits. However, the JP+ Project opts to use a combination of both methods, as doing everything as variants would result in extremely long purchase lists. Furthermore, unlike livery refits, a vehicle cannot be converted into a variant unless you delete and repurchase it.

Choosing a Livery Refit

It is not possible to check if livery refits are available until you have purchased the vehicle.

When assembling an MU, make sure to attach the MU wagons before refitting the livery. See also Consist Construction.

You can highlight part of the train to refit only the selected part.

This is especially useful when refitting loco-hauled and mixed consists. Locomotives and wagons will have completely different refit options and must be refitted separately.

Year-Dependent means the vehicle livery will be accurate to the in-game year.

Random means the liveries will be randomised. This is usually for freight trains where variation is desired.

Auto-formation means the coaches will form a realistic consist automatically.
