OpenTTD doesn’t support true elevated railways, but these can be approximated using a variety of techniques.

Requirements

  • JGR Patch Pack

The patched version of OpenTTD adds many features. Specifically for this guide, we will need the ability to build signals on bridges, bridges over stations, and custom bridgeheads.

  • Full-width Bridge Set

JP+ Bridges is the recommended bridge set because it offers full-width bridges, which look much better when building urban elevated railways.

  • Full-width Ballast Tracks

Full-width ballast looks better in urban environments. Most tracks in JP+ Tracks offer this, as do many other railtype sets including the urban tracks in JapanSet Tracks.

  • Station Sets

JapanSet Stations is always good to have, but some station sets offer specialised station tiles with custom foundations for elevated building. These include Dutch Station Additions and Korean Station Set.

  • Foundations Replacement

The vanilla foundations can be ugly, especially the temperate “crazy paving” foundation. JapanSet Stations will replace the foundations by default, as will JapanSet Landscape. These or the grey stone from OpenGFX+ Landscape is recommended for seamless blending with JP+ Bridges.
